D'Ambrosio, known as the "World's Longest Running Phantom",
has performed the role in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the
Opera" close to 300 times.
He's also starred as Anthony Corleone, the opera singing son of Al
Pacino and Diane Keaton in the Academy Award nominated film "Godfather
III".
D’Ambrosio grew up in the Bronx, N.Y., and, after high school, attended the Hartt School of Music in Hartford, Conn. He went on to study at the famed Vocal Academy of Lucca in Italy and he received a personal invitation from opera star Lucciano Pavarotti to study with the famed tenor at his home in Pesaro, Italy.
He made his Broadway debut in the first revival of “Sweeney Todd”, where he was spotted by film producer Francis Ford Coppola, who had been trying to cast the part of Anthony Corleone for more than a year. After finishing the film, he auditioned for the Broadway production of “Miss Saigon”. but his performance so impressed the producers that they tapped him for their other show, “Phantom”, instead.
Following his run in "Phantom", D’Ambrosio caught the eye of singer-song writer Barry Manilow, who selected him for the male lead, Tony, in the pre-Broadway national tour of "Copacabana". The show had a successful year-long tour and D’Ambrosio’s performance won him a nomination for the National Theatre Award for Best Male Performer in a Musical.
Franc D'Ambrosio's "Broadway", a celebration of the Broadway musical as an American art form, did a three-year, 150-city, sold out tour and the one-man show’s CD earned him a Grammy consideration for best traditional pop vocal album in 2005. In the show, D’Ambrosio sings classic Broadway hits such as “Mack the Knife” and “What Kind of Fool Am I?” along with the haunting ballad “Bring Him Home” from “Les Miserables” and a medley of songs from “Phantom”. Even though it’s a Broadway revue, D’Ambrosio also includes “Speak Softly Love”, the love theme from “The Godfather”.
Franc D'Ambrosio is the perfect talented and charismatic
performer to kick-off the 13th Season of the Monday Musical
Club of Tillamook! D'Ambrosio's "Broadway" opens at 2 pm on Sunday, November 18, 2007 at the Don Whitney Auditorium on
the Tillamook High School Campus in Tillamook.
